Work for What You Want, But Be Content Until You Get There

Philippians 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

I have been thinking about this verse a lot recently. I have been torn between being content with where I am at, and wanting to change where I am at to achieve contentment. It's not just black and white though. You can be working towards what I want, but you do need to be content until you get there. You need to be careful though because if you get too caught up in working towards your goal, you may start thinking how you won't be happy until you achieve it, and that is not a healthy way of thinking.

Last year I thought that I had found the key to happiness, but I failed to realize that life is never perfect. I thought that eliminating the negatives, and making changes in my life until it was all good, would make me happy. I didn't understand that life is never absolutely 100% perfect, and that is okay. There are aspects of our lives that we don't love, but there are so many other aspects that are so wonderful, and we need to appreciate those more often. Learning to be content is something that you have to choose to do, you have to decide that you are going to be happy, and make the best of every day with what you have. It can be very hard, and I am definitely still learning how to do it, but it is so important because otherwise, you'll constantly be chasing a better life, and never be truly happy with the life you already have.
